Graduate Student Housing Opportunity - Free rent in exchange for family support

We are a friendly, busy two-parent, three-child household in Newton Corner looking for a responsible graduate student to live in our third floor spare bedrooms with FREE RENT ($2,000/month value) in exchange for approximately 12-15 hours of help each... week.

The living space includes a furnished bedroom with a queen bed, a full personal bathroom, a second spare room that could be used as an office/sitting room and access to our shared office/kitchenette space on the same floor. Access to the family’s kitchen, music room with a grand piano, outdoor space, gym equipment, streaming services, and bicycle storage included. Household cleaners provide bathroom cleaning weekly. Rooms feature minisplit air conditioning and heating and fast Wifi (300Mbps).

The applicant should have a clean driving record and be prepared to have a background check. A reliable car is preferred, but access to a car could be worked out for the right candidate. Candidate’s schedule must permit exception handling such as early-release school days and away sports games. Smoking and vaping are not allowed. The household has three guinea pigs, which are the care of the family.

The home is conveniently located 2 blocks from the Massachusetts Turnpike, with a 5-minute walk to the Express Bus to downtown Boston or the 57 Bus to Kenmore and BU. There are bike routes into Cambridge and Boston, with rides 10-minute to Boston College, 20 to Harvard Square, and 15 to BU, making it an ideal location for graduate students attending area universities or conservatories.

Responsibilities include:

• Driving three children (ages 12, 9, and 6) to and from school in Newton and Brookline and weekly extracurricular activities primarily between the hours of 7:00-8:15am and 2:30-6pm. Occasional exceptions to these hours for early release days or orthodontic appointments may be required and would be scheduled in advance.

• Helping with a few household tasks, including:

◦ Occasional errands

◦ Light household support to help keep the week running smoothly, including cleaning up after oneself in shared spaces and supporting children in learning to be responsible for their own things.
◦ Backup communal help with snow blowing and shoveling during the winter

Our home is active, supportive, and respectful. The children are relatively independent for their ages, sometimes boisterous, and involved in school, music, and sports, so we're looking for someone who is dependable, organized, and enjoys being part of a family environment while maintaining their own independence.

This opportunity is ideal for a graduate student looking for affordable housing in a wonderful location while becoming a reliable extra set of hands in the household.

Requirements:

• Graduate student preferred

• Clean driving record and background check

• Responsible, punctual, and trustworthy

• Comfortable around children

• References required

If you're interested, please send a cover letter and work history/resume including what you're studying, your schedule, and why you think you'd be a good fit. We look forward to hearing from you!
